Webster had been hoping to start against Italy |
Winger Simon Webster has been ruled out of Scotland's Six Nations clash against Italy because of a left ankle injury. Webster, who came on as a replacement in the win over Wales, picked up the injury during Edinburgh's Magners League defeat by Leinster on Friday.
He now faces a battle to be fit for the home match against Ireland on 10 March.
"Nobody will be more disappointed than Simon because he was relishing the opportunity to get game time," said coach Frank Hadden.
Webster only played on Friday because he was still short of match practice after being out for two months with an injury to his other ankle.
Hadden may now bring in Andy Henderson or Rory Lamont to cover the 25-year-old.
Meanwhile, flanker Josh Sole, who started both of Italy's first two matches, will miss the trip to Murrayfield because of an injured elbow.
