Hadden expects tough Italian test
Frank Hadden and Chris Paterson
Hadden was delighted with Chris Paterson's performance
Scotland head coach Frank Hadden says his side will face a difficult task against Italy in the Six Nations at Murrayfield a week on Saturday.

"I was surprised that the Italians went down so heavily to the French," he told BBC Sport.

"But it was no surprise that they gave England a hard time at Twickenham.

"It's going to be a tough day for us and it's going to be extremely difficult for our forwards to get on top of a formidable Italian pack."

Looking back at Scotland's victory over Wales on Saturday, Hadden singled out the performance of captain Chris Paterson, who scored all of Scotland's points from penalties.

"Chris's temperament is just absolutely fantastic," said Hadden.

"During the week, he was talking about not being all that happy about the quality of his goal-kicking.
I'm not too worried about not scoring tries at this stage

"At the end of the match, he said that there was one of them that didn't go through the middle, but they all counted and it just shows you what a perfectionist Chris is.

"And we're obviously delighted to have him in our side.

"The great thing about him is that he is flexible and he does give us options of playing him in different positions.

"And what that does is ask different questions of the opposition defence, which is something we try to do every week."

Hadden also had praise for Scotland's fans who contributed to the atmosphere at Murrayfield on Saturday and helped make the victory over Wales a memorable event.

"I believe that the people who came to see us at the weekend thoroughly enjoyed it too," he said.

"The fans are extremely important to us. We sold the place out for the first time in a long time and I think we've created a high level of expectation.

"I'm not too worried about not scoring tries at this stage, because the most important thing was to win the game.

"Perhaps there will come a time when we will need a barrage of tries to win a game and that's hopefully when we'll deliver.

"But, whatever happens, the crowd can be assured that, not only are we going to try and entertain them, but we're going to pull out the stops to get them the win that I know they desperately want."
