Louis Silver's advance into Worcester's starting line-up is a welcome surprise, says caretaker boss, Andrew Stanley. The 19-year-old half-back, a product of the Warriors academy, made his first start for the relegated club during Saturday's 23-22 defeat by Gloucester. Stanley, who has been in charge of the academy for five years, said: "He has been a surprise, he has jumped out of the box for us. "He has not played any age group representative rugby." Silver announced his arrival as a first XV starter by creating a try for Joe Carlisle. Stanley, who took over when Mike Ruddock resigned, said he only started the game against Gloucester because Jonny Arr failed a late fitness test. "He did not know he was playing until the morning of the game, " says Stanley. "So to go in and put in that sort of performance was an outstanding effort." Meanwhile former All Black wing Rico Gear is to move to Japan to join Kintetsu Liners. Gear who spent three seasons at Sixways played in 42 Guinness Premiership games but only scored 30 points
