Gloucester sign Worcester flanker Matt Cox

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath has confirmed the arrival of Worcester flanker Matt Cox at Kingsholm.

The 22-year-old, who came through the Worcester academy, was a replacement for the Warriors in their 23-22 defeat by Gloucester on Saturday.

Redpath told BBC Gloucestershire: "He's a good young lad who can also jump in the line-out and that's great for us.

"He's coming down to challenge some of the people that are already here and that's got to be good for the club."

Even though Cox is a product of Worcester's academy, this is not the first time he could have signed for Gloucester.

The youngster revealed he had an opportunity to switch to Kingsholm earlier on in his career, but did not feel ready at the time.

"Gloucester wanted to sign me a few years ago, but I was a bit young then, I didn't know what other places were like and what to expect," Cox said.

"Now I'm a bit older, I think I'm a bit more mature in the game I wanted to come to Gloucester - I regret that back then I didn't, in a way."
