Andy Goode could be joined at Worcester by Luke Rooney |
Former England fly-half Andy Goode has confirmed he will still join Worcester Warriors next season despite their relegation from the Premiership. There had been speculation that the ex-Leicester Tigers man would not arrive at Sixways next season following Worcester's drop into the Championship. But general manager Charlie Little said: "The chairman [Cecil Duckworth] spoke to Andy Goode over the weekend. "He is coming and gearing up to the challenge in the Championship." Goode, who is currently playing at Super 14 side Sharks on loan from French club Brive, agreed to join the Warriors in February. Worcester are also hopeful that Toulon full-back Luke Rooney will honour his agreement to move to Sixways from the south of France. "In terms of the playing squad, all of the players that are coming to the club are still coming and we have no reason to doubt that," added Little. | 606: DEBATE |
"A number of guys will move on and do so with our best wishes. The rest of the squad will remain and we will have a stronger squad than we had this season." Worcester seem resigned to losing New Zealand duo Sam Tuitupou and Rico Gear. "Sammy Tuitupou had a contract offer from us that was beneficial on both sides and we said, if we went down, we could chat about it," Little continued. "I think, subject to him passing a medical with another club, we now wouldn't expect him to be with us next year. "Again, with Rico, I would envisage him not being at Sixways next year but we have enjoyed having him at the club." Centre Tuitupou and wing Gear will be joined by full-back Chris Latham, stand-off Matthew Jones and flanker Tom Wood who are already confirmed as leaving the club. Northampton back row Neil Best and Newcastle forward Adam Balding agreed contracts with Worcester for next season at the start of the year.
