Worcester Warriors fly-half Matthew Jones is hoping to battle Willie Walker for the number 10 jersey as he prepares to make his comeback from injury.

Jones has not played for the first team since injuring his foot in April but could be on the bench against Connacht in the Amlin Challenge Cup on Saturday.

He told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "Obviously Willie's firmly in the 10 slot and nailed the jersey down.

"I want to make sure he has a hard-fought fight for that jersey."

The Wales cap continued: "I'm keen and I'm not one of those players who's happy to be on the side.

Now that I'm back I'd like to put a couple of good performances in and keep us getting some good results

"I'm hoping to maybe get on and get a nice 20 minutes or something but it's down to the coaches and we'll see how it goes."

Jones was hoping to return to fitness sooner, but he had some setbacks because of a recurrence with his foot injury.

"There was a delay but we've got through it and I'm training well," he said.

"They've all put faith in me and now that I'm back I'd like to put a couple of good performances in and keep us getting some good results.

"We've had three draws but hopefully we can get some wins as well."
