Tackle law must change - Ruddock

Mike Ruddock
Ruddock has seen his team score only eight Premiership tries this season

Worcester Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock says the tackle law needs changing as it is killing the game.

Ruddock was speaking after his team were involved in a 12-12 draw with Bath on Friday.

"Is this tackle law really promoting what is best about the game? I don't think it is," Ruddock told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

He added that the Premiership has become stilted because the ball is being slowed down in the tackle area.

"There could be games when you could advocate that you could gain because you have turned turn the ball over in the tackle area," he said.

"But from a purist point of view I want to see the ball go through the hands and beat the man and use the space.

"I don't think we are seeing that as often now as we did in the past and from that point of view it needs to be really looked at."
