Walker has been released a year early from his contract at Kingsholm. |
Worcester have confirmed the permanent signing of former Gloucester utility back Willie Walker on a two-year deal. The Kiwi, who will be an English qualified player next season, has been on loan at Sixways since February. Director of rugby Mike Ruddock said: "There was a lot of interest from other clubs for Willie's services so we're very pleased he has joined us." The 30-year-old joined Gloucester in 2006, making 64 appearances for the Cherry and Whites, scoring 364 points. Comfortable at both fly-half and full-back, Walker was previously at North Harbour and Highlanders in the Super 14. Ruddock added: "It was a huge opportunity to work with Willie during his loan spell with Warriors and because of that we saw just exactly how good a player he is. "Willie is the consummate professional and also a match winner. The fact that he can play in more than one position is an incredible asset to the team. "We are convinced that Willie will add something extra to our squad and his reputation as a quality front line goal kicker also adds to the significance of this signing." Warriors back row Kai Horstmann scooped two trophies at the Players Awards Night at Sixways last night. Horstmann won the Player of the Year award, and was also voted by his fellow professionals as the Players Player of the year. Most improved player was Matt Mullan, while Alex Grove won the Young Player of the year Award.
