Latham not player-coach - Ruddock

Chris Latham
Latham will have a say in Worcester's plans, along with other senior players

Worcester Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock says there is no player-coach role for full-back Chris Latham.

Speculation had linked the experienced former Australia star with a coaching role following this week's long-drawn-out departure of Clive Griffiths.

But that has been scotched by Ruddock, who told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "It will be more of a team coaching ethos, rather than relying on a head coach."

Billy McGinty will take on Griffiths' job of backs and defence specialist.

While some of the senior players, including Latham and skipper Pat Sanderson, will continue to contribute to team plans, there will be no formal player-coaches.

Everyone has refocused very quickly after a tough time

Ruddock insists that Worcester have not let the events of the past week upset plans for this Saturday's rearranged game against Sale Sharks.

"The preparation this week has been as good as any I have experienced since I have been here," said Ruddock. "So I really am expecting a big performance.

"The players are professionals and they accept this sort of thing and just get on with the job.

"Everyone has refocused very quickly after a tough time.

"The feedback on our sessions this week has been top drawer and our mindset looks very, very good."

There will be full commentary on Warriors v Sale (1500 GMT) on BBC Hereford and Worcester on 104 FM and online.
