Thinus Delport scores against Gloucester (Ian Smith) |
Worcester Warriors will say farewell to four of the most popular players ever to don the gold and blue shirt as they take on Newcastle Falcons at Sixways. Tony Windo is retiring, while Thinus Delport, Shane Drahm and Drew Hickey are all moving to Japan. Delport told BBC Hereford and Worcester it would be an emotional day for him. "The fans here have been great," he said. "But it's part of my life that is coming to an end. And it will be a big day for me." Delport, who joined the Warriors from Gloucester four years ago, says that scoring the winning try against his old team this season at Sixways was one of the highlights. "I have always wanted to beat Gloucester, ever since I left there," he said. "And to beat them for the first time and to score was great. "It might not have been the best-ever try, but they were the only side we had not beaten in the Premiership, and to say we have now beaten every side was brilliant. "The fans have been great for me here and I have really enjoyed it, but I have to move on, and the move to Japan will extend my career. Tony Windo also playing his last game |
Delport admits he did not fancy playing on as long as Tony Windo. "He's amazing, and it takes a special kind of man to play top rugby at nearly forty but he still comes in and trains as hard as anyone. The former Spingbok cap says it would be good for all four to go out with a win against the Falcons. "It's also a big day for the club against Newcastle," he said. "And we want to win our last home game of the season for the fans, and then look to go out on a real high by winning the European Challenge Cup Final."
