Watford are looking for a new long-term agreement for the ground |
Watford say Saracens have failed to meet a deadline regarding a decision on their future at Vicarage Road. The Hornets activated a clause in their groundshare contract with the rugby team in May, with the aim of reassessing the arrangement. Watford chief executive officer Julian Winter said: "We are still in positive dialogue with Saracens' officials. "So at this moment there is a possibility of the rugby club remaining at Vicarage Road beyond June 2011." Saracens were expected to make a decision by 3 September. | 606: DEBATE |
Winter continued: "There's no doubt that a working partnership with Saracens at Vicarage Road can only be to the benefit of the long-term aims of both our club and the stadium. "But given the clear guidelines which were set out as part of our discussions, and the fact the partnership principle has been on the table for over a year, the board of Watford FC is disappointed that this matter still remains unresolved." Sarries have used Watford's ground for their home games since 1997 and the current deal lasts until 2017. But a move could be timely for ambitious Saracens, who are keen to play their rugby closer to central London. Sarries played three of their Premiership matches and a friendly international against South Africa at Wembley Stadium last season and have a number of fixtures arranged for England's national football stadium this term.
