Sale Sharks prop Gavin Kerr has been forced to retire due to a longstanding neck injury, the club has announced.

The 33-year-old former Scotland international joined Sale in April last year, having played at Leeds, Border Reivers and Edinburgh.

Kerr was capped 50 times by his country and was named in the Scotland squad for the 2003 and 2007 World Cups.

Sharks chief executive Mick Hogan said: "We thank him for his services to the club and wish him well for the future.
