Myler scored 222 points for Saints in 27 appearances last season |
England Saxons coach Stuart Lancaster has praised Northampton Saints' Jon Clarke, Stephen Myler and Lee Dickson. The trio were heavily involved in the summer Churchill Cup win with fly-half Myler scoring 58 points on the tour. Lancaster told BBC Radio Northampton: "Stephen was in great form. We used him in a different way to Saints and he had the ability to adapt. "That's what international rugby is about. All three did that and all three were big contributors on tour." Scrum-half Lee Dickson started the Churchill Cup final against Canada, ahead of Newcastle Falcons' Micky Young. "Lee brought the same enthusiasm, work rate, emotion and energy he always shows for Saints," Lancaster said. | It will be tough for the Saxons players to move up to the senior squad Saxons coach Stuart Lancaster |
"He's a very competitive character with belief in his own ability, and he carried the ball and ran a bit as well. We were delighted with Lee. "Jon played in a different style to what he's used to at Saints. But he's a strong defender and he carried well." Saints number eight Phil Dowson was due to captain the Saxons, before being called up to the senior squad touring in Australia. "We were disappointed to lose our captain, but not for long, because we were delighted for him. He got his opportunity, and he got to train with the senior squad. Lancaster is meeting with England management to discuss the senior and Saxons elite player squads. He says it will be difficult for his players to make the step up. "It's going to be interesting but it will be tough for the Saxons players to move up to the senior squad. I hope they do, though, and my aim is to promote those players with the capabilities to make the step up."
