Northampton opened their pre-season programme with a 19-14 victory over Bordeaux-Begles in Capbreton. Saints ran in three tries against the French second division outfit, thanks to Paul Diggin, Chris Ashton and Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe. Barry Everitt and Bruce Reihana kicked a conversion apiece as coach Jim Mallinder used 32 players and changed his team completely at half-time. Northampton return to action on Friday August 21 at home to Bedford Blues.
