Tredwell took five wickets to go past 50 first-class victims for the season |
James Tredwell took five wickets and Geraint Jones, Joe Denly and Martin van Jaarsveld all hit half-centuries to put Kent in charge against Northants. Beginning day three on 147-5 at Wantage Road, the hosts were bowled out for 218, to trail by 36 runs. Tredwell finished with figures of 5-68, while Riki Wessels was last out for 74. Jones (85 not out) then shared 85 with Denly (59) and an unbroken stand of 103 with van Jaarsveld (52 not out), as Kent closed on 220-2, to lead by 256. After being introduced into the attack in the sixth over of the day, Tredwell took four of the five Northants wickets to fall to pass 50 first-class scalps for the season. Andrew Hall, Johannes van der Wath and David Lucas were all caught by Sam Northeast and, after Simon Cook trapped Monty Panesar lbw, Wessels was caught by wicketkeeper Jones. In the Kent second innings, captain Rob Key, tipped for a recall to the England side for the fifth Ashes Test, could only manage 15 before Denly and Jones combined. Denly's 113-ball stay was ended when he was caught by Rob White off Nick Boje's left-arm spin, leaving Jones and van Jaarsveld to notch a century stand before stumps.
