Rain limits Wantage Road progress

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Northampton:
CLOSES OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Kent 244 Northants 147-5,
(Northants 3pts, Kent 2pts)
11-14 August 2009

Northants v Kent

Only 32 overs were possible on the second day of the County Championship clash between Northants and Kent because of rain.

Play did not get underway at Wantage Road until after tea, but Kent enjoyed the better of the limited action.

Northants resumed on 38-1, but slumped to 56-3 as Phillip Edwards removed Rob White and Niall O'Brien.

But Riki Wessels led a recovery of sorts with an unbeaten 47 as the home side closed on 147-5, 97 runs behind.

Wessels added 59 for the fourth wicket with Alex Wakely (33) before he fell to James Tredwell.

Spin also accounted for Northants captain Nicky Boje, who was bowled by Robert Ferley, before Andrew Hall kept Wessels company through to the close.
