Premiership is tougher - Sharman

Northampton

Northampton hooker Brett Sharman has admitted Premiership rugby is physically tougher than the game he's used to in his native South Africa.

The 22-year-old, who joined on trial from Super 14 side Blue Bulls last November, made his first start for the Saints against Saracens last weekend.

"It's a lot more physical here than back home, especially in the ruck," he told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I think it's a bit more expansive in South Africa," he added.

"The crowd is different too. There, they're just cheering for the game. But at Northampton they're cheering for you, which makes you feel a lot more at home.

"I'm getting used to it all, and finding out what life is like over here. I'm taking it step by step."

Sharman hopes to keep his place in the side when Northampton travel to Adams Park to face Wasps in their next Guinness Premiership encounter on Sunday.
