Northampton Saints centre Joe Ansbro has committed his immediate future to the club by signing a new contract.

The 23-year-old former Cambridge Blue is in his third season at Franklin's Gardens after joining the club's Senior Academy in 2006.

He has scored 15 tries in his 20 first-team appearances to date.

"It's an exciting time to be here, and like the other players who've re-signed I'm confident we're heading in the right direction," said Ansbro.

"Jim Mallinder and the other coaches are putting together a good squad. This new contract is a great opportunity for me at a fantastic club.

"I want to make as big a contribution as I can to the future success of the Saints."

Ansbro, who scored a try in last season's National Trophy final at Twickenham, has a bright future in the game, according to Mallinder.

"Joe is a talented player who has impressed every time he's come into the first team," he said.

"He has a good eye for space and is an excellent defender. He's also eager to learn and improve with every game.

"I believe there is a lot more to come from him."
