Tal Selley has spent this season on loan with Cardiff Blues |
Newport Gwent Dragons have recruited Ospreys utility three-quarter Tal Selley on a one-year contract. The 28-year-old Pembroke Dock product has made 12 appearances for Cardiff Blues on loan this term, but will join his new region for next season. Once-capped Selley has been a regular on the Sevens circuit for Wales and will become the first player to have represented all four exisitng regions. "I'm really excited about signing with the Dragons region," Selley said. "I'm looking forward to playing regular rugby and helping to bring success alongside an exciting squad that is being built at Rodney Parade. "It's been a happy ground for me, having scored tries on my visits to Rodney Parade over the years, and I hope to score many more as it becomes my home ground." | 606: DEBATE |
Selley started his professional career with Llanelli and was part of the first Scarlets squad when the game in Wales changed to regional teams. While at Stradey Park he won his only Wales cap, coming on as a replacement against the USA in June 2005. The 2006/7 season saw Selley move to the Ospreys, but he struggled to hold down a starting place and he joined the Blues on permit for this season. But Dragons head coach Paul Turner is hopeful that he will become a mainstay with the region for next year and beyond. "Tal is a fine talent and a positive signing for the region next year," Turner said. "In his ability to score tries as well as his pace, he is a rare commodity. "I've followed Tal on the Sevens circuit for a number of years and believe that any player with the ability to score tries as he has in the IRB Sevens Series is an excellent prospect for the region." He follows hooker Duane Goodfield in quitting the Arms Park to join the Dragons, while on of Selley's former team-mates at the Ospreys, fly-half Shaun Connor, will also arrive at Rodney Parade. The Gwent region also hopes to be able to announce soon the recruitment of former All Blacks hooker Tom Willis from Waikato and highly-rated Southland lock Hoani Macdonald.
