Montpellier took charge of pool three in the European Challenge Cup with an accomplished 32-8 win over an inexperienced Newcastle side. A largely uneventful first half saw Benoit Paillaugue kick three penalties for the hosts in reply to Joel Hodgson's kick and Luke Fielden's try. But after the break the French side upped their tempo and pulled away. Tries by Quentin Doumayrou and Seta Tuilevuka were complemented by 13 points from the boot of Paillaugue.
