Newcastle Falcons' Luke Eves looks for revenge

Newcastle Falcons centre Luke Eves is looking for revenge after losing three times to the Exeter Chiefs with Bristol last season.

Like the Chiefs, Eves has also made the step up to the Premiership this season but he insists Newcastle will not take the newly-promoted side lightly.

Eves told BBC Newcastle: "They've done well, all credit to them. We're not going to underestimate them certainly."

Like the Falcons, Exeter have won one and lost one so far this season.

Eves has picked out fly-half Gareth Steenson as the danger man to watch in Saturday's match.

With Exeter moving Steenson onto the left wing when defending, Eves says the Falcons may have to change their tactics accordingly.

"Maybe it's an area we're going to target. [Steenson] is a class kicker and he has been bringing his backs into the game as well.

"We're obviously going to have to watch out for him, but maybe there's an opportunity to attack him somewhere down the line."

We know the way we want to play - it's forward and backs integrated

Newcastle have made a mixed start to the season, winning one and losing one, while all four of their tries so far have come from forwards, and Eves says this needs to change.

"I'm sure if it carries on the forwards will be getting stuck into us, but we know the way we want to play - it's forward and backs integrated," added Eves.

Eves is also targeting his personal game - Falcons head coach Alan Tait has said that the centre needs more self-belief and Eves agrees.

"I do need to back myself a little bit more and it's great having that backing from a coach," he said.

"It's not my lack of skills or anything like that - it's just a confidence thing.

"Hopefully when our attacking game gets going a bit more I'll get my hands on the ball a bit more and really show what I can do. "
