Newcastle Falcons have signed Coventry prop James Hall following the departure of tight head Carl Hayman to French side Toulon. Hall, 23, joins on a one-year deal and has been earmarked to add back-up to the promising Kieran Brookes in the Falcons first team. "He's keen to learn, and the plan is that he will sit behind Kieran," assistant coach Alan Tait said. "He's a quality young tight-head who has been starting regularly." However with Brookes just 18, and Hall just 23, Tait has accepted the need to secure further strength to the tight-head division at Kingston Park. | With James' signing we've now got the sort of depth and quality that we know we need in that position |
"We're still talking to people about a tight head coming in next season as a more senior player for these lads to learn from," he added. "But with James' signing we've now got the sort of depth and quality that we know we need in that position. "The fact that we also have Jon Golding, Grant Shiells and Micky Ward at the club leaves us in pretty good shape in the propping department, and that is a foundation on which we will look to build going into the new season."
