Tait was due to join up with Scotland's under-20 Six Nations side

Newcastle Falcons centre Michael Tait has undergone an operation on his left foot after picking up an injury in the LV= Cup game at Cardiff Blues.

Tait, 19, has made two first-team appearances for Falcons, and will now miss out on Scotland Under-20s Six Nations campaign.

The son of Falcons first-team coach Alan Tait, the former Kelso player, signed during the summer of 2009.

Falcons are currently assessing the length of Tait's absence.
