Falcons not finished yet - Bates

Newcastle Falcons boss Steve Bates believes there is more to come from his players after a stunning 14-10 win at home to Leicester on Friday night.

Premiership leaders Tigers were subdued by an excellent all-round performance from the Falcons and Bates is adamant his squad can spring yet more shocks.

"This certainly isn't the finished article," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"When we saw the Leicester side we thought it would be a handful but we subdued that and came out on top."

Meanwhile stand-in fly-half Tom May continued to impress in his unfamiliar role with a solid place kicking game.

The 30-year-old back, who has played at centre and on the wing, has won fans over with his displays in place of the injured Jonny Wilkinson.

And Bates confessed May's goal-kicking ability showed a new string to his bow.

"He keeps unearthing some talent out of his locker," he said.

"He played very well, all week we talked about him straying off from where we wanted him to be, and he did a fantastic job tonight."
