May frustrated by Falcons slump

Tom May
May has found the Falcons' recent slump difficult to bear

Newcastle Falcons winger Tom May has admitted the club's recent dip in form has been the most difficult spell of his career so far.

May, 29, was part of the side that collected two Powergen Cup victories earlier in the decade and confessed the recent lack of honours is hard to take.

"We're having a tough time at the moment," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"We've had a string of losses and we're where we don't think we should be, so you question all sorts of things."

May has been playing centre alongside Kiwi import Tane Tu'ipulotu in the absence of Jamie Noon who is away on England duty.

And the London-born May believes with time the experienced former Hurricanes star will settle into the side.

"He's a great player and he's done very well in the Air New Zealand Cup so he's very experienced from his time playing rugby in New Zealand," he said.

"He brings something different to our back line and it's been tough for him to come into a side which holds their hands up and says 'we're struggling'.

"But hopefully we'll get on the front foot against Wasps and give him an opportunity to shine."

May has just been handed a benefit season to mark his 10 years service for the Falcons.
