Tu'ipulotu ready for Premiership

Newcastle centre Tane Tu'ipulotu believes he is ready for the physical test of the Premiership after his arrival from southern hemisphere rugby.

The Kiwi, 27, is set to make his debut against London Irish on Sunday and he said he is keen to experience the difference in tempo and atmosphere.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge," Tu'ipulotu told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"It's a pretty hard competition, different [to Super 14 rugby] but still a pretty full-on game."

Tu'ipulotu joined Falcons from Super 14 side Hurricanes, in South Africa, and has also represented the Chiefs and Wellington during his career.

The Tongan-born centre is hoping the experience of crossing continents will help him adjust to life in the north east of England.

"In New Zealand I've been a roamer, I've been from Auckland to Wellington, to Palmerstone, then when I went to the Chiefs and Waikato," he said.

"It's a big part to try to fit in as quick as I can."

There is a sizeable contingent of Kiwis playing Premiership and Tu'ipulotu admitted he has tapped up some of those former colleagues to find out more about the English game.

"I've spoken to a few that I used to play alongside, mainly the Kiwi boys I've played against," he said.

"London Irish centre Seilala Mapusua is a good friend of mine and Worcester centre Sam Tuitupou, they say it's not an easy game."
