Falcons future positive - Swinson

Newcastle Falcons lock Tim Swinson believes the club has taken a step in the right direction in recent games despite a run of three defeats.

Swinson, 21, has impressed at both lock and in the back row and is confident the team can add positive results to their improved performances.

"Everyone likes to win but there are obviously signs of improvement," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"Our defence against Gloucester was outstanding."

The London-born politics student has made 13 appearances in total for the Falcons across the Premiership, Anglo-Welsh Cup and European Challenge Shield competitions.

Swinson admitted it has been tough to step up to the standard of top-flight rugby but is enjoying the challenge.

"I'm finding it exciting, there's a lot more stuff to know," he said.

"There's a lot more riding on the games and it's been a good opportunity.

"It was quite daunting last season but now I just seem part of it and there are lots of senior players.

"I'd love to stick in at the first team and win more games."

Falcons are currently eighth in the Guinness Premiership, on nine points, one above recently-promoted Northampton.
