Thompson had previously sought to sell the Falcons
Newcastle Falcons chairman Dave Thompson has confirmed he will remain the major shareholder of the club "for the foreseeable future".
Thompson decided not to part company with the club he will have chaired for 10 years in February 2009.
"The club's not going to get taken over and I'm committing myself at the club," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.
"Any talks of change of ownership for the Falcons in the foreseeable future are off."
Talks had taken place between Thompson and three interested parties, but the 63-year-old was adamant it was in the club's best interests not to sell.
"I think it's not about terms or pricing, but it's much more about the other parties' vision of their ability to sustain the club over the long term," he said.
"I believe it's right for the club that we've got to have a base and are identified with Newcastle, and the region and whatever happens that must continue."
With the ownership of the club now settled, the chairman is now confident he can begin to look at improvements in personnel.
But with attendances down and the finances within rugby at a premium, Thompson delivered a rallying call to supporters, urging them to show their support at the turnstiles.
"We're looking at the squad at the minute but that has to be put against a backdrop that we haven't had the success we'd like in terms of crowds this year as we'd have liked," he said.
"The most important thing for me is to ensure the club is stable and coming forward and of course we'll look at the opportunity to get players, but it's a difficult time of year.
"I can't make promises in that area, we have to look at whether we can afford it, and a lot of it down to our support and crowds.
"I'm not saying we haven't at the minute, but what I would like to see is a few more people getting behind the side and pushing us forward."
