Bonus points crucial for Leicester - Richard Cockerill

Cockerill's side have a six-point lead at the top of the Premiership

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill has underlined the importance of bonus points to his side's success in the Premiership this season.

Tigers lead the table with 10 wins from 14 matches, the same record as second-placed Saracens, but eight bonus points has given them a six-point lead.

Cockerill told BBC Radio Leicester: "We want to be consistent and if we lose we want to take a bonus point.

"The difference between being first or second might be bonus points."

Tigers host sixth-placed Wasps on Saturday (1730 GMT), while Saracens entertain Leeds on Sunday (1500 GMT).

"Even when we lose, we don't lose by many and pick up points along the way," Cockerill added.

"Sometimes a loss is disappointing at the time but those points are vitally important and will count for something."
