Leicester Tigers prop Marcos Ayerza has signed a new contract at Welford Road.

The Argentine forward has extended his current deal until beyond the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand although the exact details have not been revealed.

Director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: "Marcos has developed with every season. He is a top-class operator and is among our senior core of players."

The 27-year-old joined Tigers in 2006 and has won three Premiership titles and played in two Heineken Cup finals.

Ayerza added: "I am entering my fifth season with Leicester Tigers and this is a great place to play your club rugby.

"We have an excellent group of players, there is a great spirit here and I hope we can start the new season well and I'm looking forward to it."

Ayerza has made more than 100 appearances for Leicester and has won 29 caps for Argentina.

Leicester also hope to secure a new deal for Ayerza's front-row colleague Martin Castrogiovanni.
