Hipkiss excited by new-look Tigers

Leicester Tigers and England centre Dan Hipkiss is relishing the chance to play at the new-look Welford Road.

The new 10,000-seat Caterpillar Stand will open in time for the first home Premiership game of the season against Newcastle on Saturday, 19 September.

Hipkiss told BBC East Midlands Today: "It will be great to run out through the stand. It's very impressive.

"The Tigers fans always make a lot of noise and if we can get another 7,000 in, it will be fantastic."

The opening of the new stand is part of a major redevelopment of major of Welford Road which will see three new stands and increase overall capacity to 30,000.

Hipkiss added: "It's a huge stadium and and I was lucky enough to get a tour of it a couple of months ago and now the seats are in you get an idea what it will be like on matchday.

"It shows the ambition we have here and hopefully we can do it justice on the playing side as well."
