Jonny Hepworth's Leeds Carnegie future in balance

Jonny Hepworth admits his future at Leeds Carnegie may depend on whether the club stays in the Premiership.

The versatile back is out of contract in the summer and has found his first team chances limited in the second-half of the season.

Hepworth told BBC Radio Leeds: "It's all up in the air at the moment. It all depends which league Leeds are in next season whether they keep me or not."

"I'm very happy here and want to stay, so hopefully it will work out."

The 27-year-old started the season at centre but the club's management team have asked him to play on the wing.

Hepworth has started just five Premiership games this season, but his impressive performances and try-scoring record in the A team have kept him on the fringe of first team squad.

However if Leeds stay in the Premiership, the club may not offer him a new contract. If they are relegated, the number of current first team players leaving make it more likely Hepworth will be offered a new deal.

"It's been a really frustrating season for me. I started the season at centre then we signed Seru Rabeni, who came in and played very well," explained Hepworth.

"Then the coaching staff looked at me playing wing, so I've then been in a transitional period trying to prove I can play on the wing as well as centre.

"So it's been pretty frustrating for me, but I have just got to keep doing what I've been doing, scoring tries at A team level and hopefully get back in the first team.

"I'm still happy and playing in a good A team helps that. The coaching staff has always said that I'm in their plans for the future, so hopefully if I keep working hard and do my best I will get back in the team."
