Leeds Carnegie's Luther Burrell hopes to have done enough to earn another start at Northampton on Saturday.
The 21-year-old outside centre's first appearance of the season against London Irish was one of the few positives to come from the 56-7 defeat.
"I like to think I had a good game and showed what I could do in certain areas," Burrell told BBC Radio Leeds.
"I'll go into this week looking to build on this and just see what happens and go from there."
Huddersfield-born Burrell made his Leeds debut in 2006 against Saracens in the Premiership, but Sunday's match was only his fifth senior appearance.
He spent time on loan at Otley last season and has started this season on loan at Rotherham Titans in the Championship.
"I thought I played pretty well. I stayed solid in defence but didn't really get many opportunities to show what I could do in attack," said Burrell.
"It was very hard against such good opposition and we need to learn lessons from it.
"It's just three games in and we won't let this knock of confidence too much, we have to take it week by week and see what comes.
"Neil Back [head coach] doesn't take defeat easily and he'll cement it into the squad about being positive, staying positive, and looking to the future."
