England centre Mike Tindall signs new Gloucester deal

England centre Mike Tindall has signed a new one-year deal with Gloucester.

The Cherry and Whites skipper, who has also captained his country in this season's Six Nations, will extend his stay at Kingsholm into a seventh year.

"I didn't really entertain the idea of being anywhere else to be honest," said the 32-year-old who joined Gloucester from rivals Bath in 2005.

"I love the club, the supporters, the area. Signing on again wasn't a difficult decision."

Tindall, who has taken over the England reins this season in the absence of the injured Lewis Moody, has won 69 caps for his country and was a World Cup winner in 2003.

And the Otley-born three-quarter has a chance of lifting silverware both for club and country this season with England still on for the Six Nations title and Gloucester third in the Premiership.

The Kingsholm club have also reached the semi-finals of the LV= Cup and if they can see off Newport Gwent Dragons on Sunday will compete in the final the following weekend, although that clashes with the culmination of the Six Nations and Tindall will be absent.

It's really a challenge for Mike to see that he's still hungry and wants to be in there for another year after that

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath on the one-year deal

Tindall has previously enjoyed title success at Gloucester when the club lifted the European Challenge Cup in his first season and he has made 107 appearances for the club.

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "Mike has a big part to play and still wants to win something at this club.

"It's important that he understands his role within the team and how he functions and how he keeps improving as a player.

"He still has a little bit to work on and that's for me to make sure that Mike works hard over the next year and improves part of his game."

Tindall's likely World Cup commitments in New Zealand and his age were key to the reason to limit the deal to a year.

Redpath added: "It's not safe to say that there won't be another one the year after, but it's really a challenge for Mike to see that he's still hungry and wants to be in there for another year after that."
