Betts made his name as a rugby league player with Wigan Warriors |
Denis Betts has left his job as skills and development coach at Gloucester. The 40-year-old former rugby league player joined Gloucester in January 2006 when Dean Ryan was head coach and had a year remaining on his contract. Managing director Ken Nottage told the club website: "I'd like to thank Denis for his significant contribution to the team's development and achievements." Betts recently applied for the England rugby league team coach's job but failed to be selected for the post. He played for Wigan in the Super League, and was capped 32 times by Great Britain. He worked as an assistant coach at Wigan before moving to Gloucester. Betts could now make a return to rugby league with Super League sides St Helens, Bradford, Huddersfield and Catalans Dragons looking for new coaches for next season.
