Evans seeks Glasgow improvement

Evans said the Glasgow Warriors squad was much stronger

Glasgow Warriors winger Thom Evans says a stronger squad sees the club well-placed for the new season.

Sean Lineen's side finished in seventh spot in last season's Magners League, 26 points behind champions Munster.

"I've no doubt we'll bury some of our demons against some of the weaker teams this year because we're a lot stronger as a squad," Evans told BBC Scotland.

"We're not going to make the same mistakes again. I want to take off from where I left off last season."

Evans welcomed the challenge posed by players vying for his position in the side.

I really have to go out there and establish myself

Glasgow Warriors lock Richie Gray

"I want to take off from where I left off last season and just keep giving everything on the pitch - performing the best I can," he said.

"If you're not performing for your club then you're not going to get a look in at national level.

"There's a lot of competition for places, especially in the backs. It's really good to have that depth in the squad."

Evans's team-mate, Richie Gray, said he wanted to establish himself in Lineen's side this season.

"It's going to be really hard to do that because I've got quality players in my position within the squad," the lock said.

"But I really have to go out there and establish myself.

"Hopefully, if I can show what I've got and get a wee bit of game time then Sean will see I've got a lot to give and I can get a few more games in the new season."
