Evans brothers sign Glasgow deals

The Evans brothers have signed a new deal with Glasgow Warriors

Interview: Max and Thom Evans of Glasgow Warriors

The Evans brothers, Max and Thom, have agreed new extended contracts with Glasgow Warriors.

They had become the 20th set of siblings to play together for Scotland in the defeat to France last month.

The duo had been attracting interest from French clubs after showing up well in Paris and during the following win over Italy at Murrayfield.

Both players are now tied to the Warriors until 2011 as speculation surrounding their futures was ended.

Neither started the Six Nations opener against Wales, but Max came off the bench to score an impressive consolation try, while Thom claimed Scotland's solitary touchdown against France.

I've always been very happy in Glasgow and now that's even more-so given that Thom and I will be together until 2011

Against Italy, an electric burst from Thom helped set up replacement flanker Scott Gray for the second of Scotland's two tries.

Glasgow coach Sean Lineen is happy to have secured the services of both.

"We're obviously delighted that both Thom and Max have committed to Glasgow Warriors and Scottish Rugby for the next two years," he said.

"They are both exciting talents and that's abundantly clear when they have the ball in hand.

"The crowd just go ballistic when they are in action at either Murrayfield or Firhill.

"They're two very refreshing talents to have around the Scottish game."

Max was equally delighted to commit himself to the Warriors for the next two seasons at least.

"I've always been very happy in Glasgow and now that's even more-so given that Thom and I will be together until 2011," he said.

MY SPORT: DEBATE

"We just want to dedicate ourselves to Glasgow Warriors and Scottish Rugby as the next World Cup fast approaches."

Thom echoed his older brother's sentiments.

"I'm really excited with the way Scottish Rugby is going at the moment and obviously, since I've been at Glasgow, I feel that each season we've got better as a team," he added.

"Our performances are improving and with Chris Cusiter on board for next season it's a big statement of how ambitious we are at Glasgow.

"There is more competition in the Scotland squad than ever before, so it's important that I stay in Scotland to increase my chances of playing for my country.

Max had penned a new deal in December, but with Thom's contract due to expire at the end of the season, the club agreed to renegotiate his terms at the same time.
