Exeter were beaten by French side Montpellier in their first ever European Challenge Cup fixture. The visitors took control with a Dimitri Pelo try, which was converted by Raphael Lagarde, who later added another six points via two penalties. Ryan Davis grabbed six points for the hosts, who trailed 13-6 at half-time. But Seta Tuilevuka's try put the result beyond doubt, although Chad Slade's late try and Phil Dollman's conversion gave Exeter a losing bonus point.
