Bristol sign South African Turner

Bristol head coach Richard Hill
Hill is delighted to capture Turner who was being eyed by other English clubs

Bristol have signed South African back Mathew Turner from Western Province on a two-year contract.

The 20-year-old, who can play at either full-back or on the wing, will arrive at the end of September.

Bristol head coach Richard Hill said: "Mathew was recommended to us from contacts in South Africa.

"He's quick and strong and has an excellent try-scoring record. He'll provide real competition for the back three places."

Hill added: " He was already attracting interest from other clubs in England so we had to move fast to secure his services."

This year Turner, who qualifies for England due to having an English mother, was selected for South Africa in the IRB Under-20's World Cup in Wales.
