Bristol City and Sheffield United had to settle for a goalless draw as both teams failed to produce a clinical edge to their play.

Blades striker James Beattie was his side's main threat but he could not find a way past keeper Adriano Basso.

The home side were left to rue a Dele Adebola miss as the striker headed over from six yards.

Lee Trundle also failed to capitalise on a rebound from Lee Johnson's shot for City as the spoils were shared.

"Stern John was adamant it was a penalty.

"He was closest to the incident. But my only complaints about referees are made under my breath.

"Perhaps 2-2 would have been a fairer reflection because we had a couple of great chances and so did they."

"It was well contested and, while we dominated the first half, they showed great spirit in the second.

"Paddy Kenny has made a great double save for us early in the second half, but not better than the ones the Bristol keeper made right at the death.

"We're not worried about our scoring record. Goals will come. When you don't get them you must keep a clean sheet."
