The new Lansdowne Road stadium is proposed to look like this |
A dispute between Dublin rugby club Wanderers and the IRFU is threatening to delay work on the redevelopment of the Lansdowne Road stadium. Wanderers, who have been tenants at Lansdowne Road, have sought an injunction to prevent their club pavilion from being demolished.
In response, the IRFU released a statement expressing "regret and disappointment" at Wanderers' action.
Wanderers say they want equal rights with other tenants Lansdowne RFC.
It is understood that Wanderers are asking for a presence in the new stadium in the form of a corporate box.
Wanderers are also believed to be unhappy about their proposed allocation of international tickets although the IRFU has insisted that the club has received a fair deal.
The IRFU statement said that Wanderers' action were seeking to "prevent the re-development of Lansdowne Road".
"The IRFU will, on behalf of the clubs and rugby fraternity of Ireland, be robustly defending its position and its right to re-develop Lansdowne Road for the good of Irish rugby," added the statement.
Last month, Irish planning authorities gave permission for the redevelopment of the south Dublin stadium.
