The new Lansdowne Road stadium is proposed to look like this |
A planning hearing concerning the proposed redevelopment of Landsowne Road got under way in Dublin on Monday and is expected to last for one week. Plans for the 300 million Euro project were passed by the Dublin City Council in July but they have since been appealed against by various parties.
Residents' concerns include the height of the proposed 50,000 capacity venue.
Other issues include worries over potential flooding and the loss of a walkway adjacent to the ground.
The redevelopment plan was submitted by the IRFU and FAI to transform the existing 36,000 stadium into a state-of-the-art 50,000 all-seater venue.
The Irish Government has agreed to give a two 200m Euro grant for the project with the two governing sports bodies meeting the remainder of the cost.
