Ulster cruise to victory
Ulster fly-half Paddy Wallace
Paddy Wallace scored a try and four conversions for Ulster

Ulster 33-3 Orrell

Winger Andy Maxwell scored a cracking debut try as Ulster cruised to victory against the English First Division side Orrell at Ravenhill on Friday evening.

The Ballymena speedster was the pick of players on the park.

He scored the first of Ulster's five tries and played a prominent role in the convincing victory.

Paddy Wallace added a try to his four conversions with skipper Andy Ward, Scott Young and Bryn Cunningham also touching down.

As expected for the first game of the season, there was a plethora of mistakes, but overall Ulster were superior in most phases, particularly in the set-pieces.

Maxwell's try came after only three minutes following a penalty by visiting fly-half Dave Slemen, son of the former England wing.

Ulster stretched their lead in the 14th minute when Wallace jinked inside the covering defence to score at the posts.

With both teams ringing the changes at the start of the second half, there was a lull in the game before Ulster scored again in the 61st minute.

Constable and Maxwell were involved in the move which culminated in skipper Andy Ward crashing over from close range from a penalty after Orrell centre Wade Kelly had been sin-binned.

Ulster's well-organised defence frustrated Orrell and in a breakaway when the ball flashed through eight pair of hands before replacement wing Young touched down.

With Orrell feeling the pace, another team effort saw Cunningham sprint over in the corner with Wallace knocking over his fourth conversion at the final whistle.
