Wallaby Rod Moore (left) joins Ulster on a short-term contract |
Former Australian Test prop Rod Moore has signed for Ulster on a short-term contract. Moore will arrive in the province on Monday after receiving clearance from the Australian Rugby Union.
The 31-year-old New South Wales Waratahs front-row forward will be used by Ulster as cover during the World Cup.
The province are already without Justin Fitzpatrick who has moved to French club Castres.
Ulster will also miss Springbok Robbie Kempson who is due for surgery on an injured elbow next Thursday in Cape Town and is out of the World Cup.
With Simon Best looking ever more likely that he will be in the final shake-up for Ireland's World Cup squad it would leave the Ulster front-row short on experience.
Clem Boyd and new signing Ronan McCormick are the only props with any significant experience for the Celtic League campaign.
Moore made 14 appearance for Australia after making debut in the 1999 World Cup against USA. His last international appearance was against South Africa 12 months ago.
Moore played for the Waratahs in that controversial match against the Lions in Sydney two years ago when Duncan McRae assaulted Ronan O'Gara and was subsequently red-carded.
