Cohen returns to England set-up
Ben Cohen
England have recalled winger Ben Cohen for their autumn Test series against Australia, New Zealand and Samoa.

Cohen was omitted from coach Andy Robinson's original 30-man squad but has responded with six tries in four games for Northampton.

He gets his place ahead of Gloucester winger James Simpson-Daniel, who is named in the stand-by squad.

Injured trio Joe Worsley, Iain Balshaw and Alex Brown are replaced by Andy Hazell, Tom Voyce and Steve Borthwick.

As well as Simpson-Daniel, Stuart Abbott and Tom Palmer have also been demoted to the stand-by list ahead of the games.

Olly Barkley's recent form for Bath earned him selection ahead of Abbott and Leicester lock Louis Deacon, having been called into the training squad as injury cover, retains his place ahead of Palmer.

"I've had to make some changes to the squad because of injuries and others are based on current form but all the players involved are there on merit," said Robinson.

"There will be some disappointed players from the first 30-man squad I announced last month but I will always stress that the door to selection is open.

"Olly Barkley, Tom Voyce, Andy Hazell and Steve Borthwick have all been in outstanding form for their clubs and given me some very difficult decisions to make.

"They were always in contention by virtue of the fact they were originally in the stand-by squad and have all now made the step back up to the senior squad.

"Louis Deacon was called into the squad when we trained at Loughborough because of injuries to Simon Shaw and Tom Palmer and he impressed me in training with England."

Cohen, whose last England cap came in the 19-13 Six Nations defeat to Ireland earlier this year, has scored 29 tries in 46 appearances for his country.

However, the 27-year-old suffered last season as Northampton battled against relegation from the Premiership but has returned to form with a host of tries so far this season.

"Ben has been in excellent form for his club," said Robinson.

"I feel that he is returning to the form that made him such an important member of the squad two years ago and I'm looking forward to working with him again."

Lions players Lawrence Dallaglio and Jonny Wilkinson were left out of the squad in order to allow them to return to full fitness.

England play Australia on 12 November, New Zealand on 19 November and Samoa on 26 November.

Robinson will name his team for the Australia game on 6 November.
