Bulloch led the side during last year's World Cup |
Hooker Gordon Bulloch will captain Scotland in their autumn Test series. Bulloch takes over from Scott Murray, who is recovering from knee surgery, for the games against Australia (two), Japan and South Africa.
"It's a huge honour to captain your country and I feel really privileged to do so," Bulloch said.
Scotland's 37-man squad includes four uncapped players - Glasgow duo Sam Pinder and John Barclay, plus Borders pair Ross Ford and Scott MacLeod.
Bulloch, capped 66 times, has captained his country twice before, the last time against the USA at last year's World Cup.
The second Test against the Wallabies, on 20 November, will be in Bulloch's home city of Glasgow, at Hampden Park. "That adds even more to what will already be a great occasion for me personally," he added.
"Being captain and having that added responsibility is a challenge that I'm especially looking forward to."
Scotland coach Matt Williams explained his choice of Bulloch to take over from Murray, who led the side on their summer tour to Australia.
"Gordon is an influential and inspirational figure both on and off the pitch," Williams said. "The squad really respond to him.
"I had indicated at the start of last season that I intended to rotate the captaincy and I felt that now was the right time for Gordon to take over the mantle." Williams will be without nine of his English-based players for the first of the Tests against Australia at Murrayfield on 6 November.
The likes of Stuart Grimes, Tom Smith and Jason White will be missing with their Zurich Premiership clubs declining to release them given that the match is outside the international 'window' set aside by the International Rugby Board.
"It's an extremely sad day for me and I can't understand that type of thinking," Williams added.
"As a rugby man it's hugely disappointing that people wouldn't allow those players a chance to play for their country.
"I feel really sorry for people like Stuart Grimes and Tom Smith who probably will never play Australia at Murrayfield again.
"How can you rob any player of the opportunity to play for their country?"
Scotland also play Japan in Perth on 13 November, Australia again on 20 November and finish against South Africa at Murrayfield a week later.
