Hodge given another chance
Duncan Hodge
Duncan Hodge had been hit by injury and loss of form
Leeds Tykes stand-off Duncan Hodge has been given the chance to resurrect his international career after being named in a 46-man elite training squad.

And coach Matt Williams has called up Saracens prop Nick Lloyd, who qualifies through his Aberdeen-born grandmother.

Uncapped Glasgow scrum-half Sam Pinder is also named in the squad.

Hodge, injured for last season's RBS 6 Nations, said: "This season, Leeds' warm-up games have gone well and I'm pleased to be included in the squad."

The former Edinburgh stand-off has not been capped since Matt Williams took over and said: "Last season, things were going fine then I dislocated my elbow at probably the worst possible time and was out for three months from December."

Ross Beattie, Simon Cross, Nathan Hines and Gavin Kerr all return from injury, while Ross Ford, who missed the summer tour of Australia through IRB under-21 world championship duty, is included.

The 27-year-old Lloyd is called up after being part of the Scottish Exiles squad.

Williams' squad will gather at Murrayfield on Mondays throughout September in preparation for the Autumn Test series against Australia, South Africa and Japan.

The coach said: "It's good to see so many players placing themselves in the selection arena for our four Tests in the autumn.

"The national squad for the Autumn Tests will be chosen subsequently based on the elite training squad."
