| Thursday, 21 November, 2002, 22:49 GMT Edwards hailed as greatest ![]() Edwards won 53 caps for Wales and 10 for the Lions Scrum-half legend Gareth Edwards was voted the greatest Welsh player of all time at a star-studded dinner at the Cardiff International Arena on Thursday. Fly-half Phil Bennett was named the best ever attacker and brutal full-back JPR Williams the greatest ever defensive player. Further awards went to Neil Jenkins as the greatest kicker, with John Dawes voted the best coach and Mervyn Davies the number one captain. Ieuan Evans' Five Nations touchdown at the Arms Park against Scotland in 1988 was rated as the best ever try from a Welshman. The event was organised by the Welsh Rugby Former International Players' Association in association with the Welsh Rugby Union and First Press Events company. |
