Eric Miller has pulled out of the Ireland squad to travel to Russia for a World Cup qualifying tie in Krasnoyarsk on 21 September.

Miller has failed to recover from a rib injury that also rules him out of Leinster's Celtic League clash with Connacht at Donnybrook on Friday night.

The former Lions number 8 missed last week's warm-up match against Romania, but Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan was hoping that he would recover in time.

However, following medical advice, the injury-prone Miller is again forced out.

Leinster number 8 Victor Costello has been drafted into the 26-man squad from which the team to play Russia will be announced on Tuesday.
