Sale's Epi Taione has been banned for 18 weeks after pleading guilty to biting Munster and Ireland flanker Denis Leamy in a Heineken Cup match. The Tongan winger was cited following the Sharks' defeat at Thomond Park, Limerick, on January 21.
He appeared before an independent disciplinary committee in London on Monday which issued the suspension.
Taione will miss the rest of the current season and will be unable to play again until Monday, 12 June.
